Texas Paycheck Calculator
Take-home pay with no state income tax
Estimate based on 2026 federal brackets, the standard deduction, Social Security (6.2% up to $184,500) and Medicare (1.45%). Federal tax is your yearly tax spread across paychecks, which can differ from W-4 withholding. Not tax advice.
Texas is one of nine states with no state income tax, so only federal taxes come out of your paycheck. Our free Texas paycheck calculator shows your take-home pay after federal income tax, Social Security, and Medicare, for hourly and salaried jobs, using 2026 tax rates.
Does Texas have state income tax?
No. Texas does not tax wages at the state level, and cities and counties in Texas cannot charge a local income tax either. The Texas Constitution requires a public vote before any personal income tax could be created. This makes Texas paychecks larger than in most other states with the same gross pay.
Texas still collects money in other ways. The state sales tax is 6.25%, and local sales taxes can bring the total to 8.25%. Texas property taxes are also among the highest in the country, so homeowners should include them in their budget.
Federal taxes on every paycheck
- Federal income tax: 10% to 37%, based on your income and filing status. Your employer withholds it using your Form W-4.
- Social Security: 6.2% of wages, up to $184,500 in 2026.
- Medicare: 1.45% of all wages, plus an extra 0.9% on wages above $200,000 ($250,000 if married filing jointly).

How to take home more in Texas
- Review your W-4. A big refund every spring means too much federal tax is being withheld from each check.
- Use pre-tax benefits. 401(k) contributions and pre-tax health premiums lower your federal taxable income.
- Consider an HSA. With a high-deductible health plan, payroll HSA contributions can lower both income tax and FICA.
